Announced at Interplas: Cycloc Secures Horners Award Win

The highly innovative Cycloc – a stylish wall mounted bicycle storage system – designed by Andrew Lang Product Design Ltd, was confirmed at Interplas as the winner of the prestigious Horners Award for Plastics Design and Innovation 2011. 

The ‘stunningly simple and attractive’ wall mounted bicycle storage system enables a wide variety of bicycle styles to be stored, suspended from either the frame or the seat posts. Its unique design enables it to utilize the inherent weight bias of a bicycle as part of the retention system and its circular form allows the unit to be rotated to accommodate a wide range of bicycle styles and frame sizes, enabling bicycles to be stored horizontally or vertically.

Panelists were agreed that the Cycloc’s unique design features resonated strongly with their winning criteria and were astounded by the commercial success the product has accrued to date – one of the key prerequisites of entries to the Horner’s Award.

Chairman of the Horners Award Committee, Peter Davis said, “Yet again the field of entries was very strong this year, from concept to design. However the Cycloc was successfully chosen as the outstanding candidate. The judging panel felt that, as well as demonstrating innovative and detailed product design, the Cycloc displayed a great solution to an obvious storage problem in many environments. The product demonstrates the valuable contribution of plastics to society.”

Formerly rotationally moulded, designers at Cycloc matured the product into an injection moulded product in 2010 to supply mass market demand and to date 95% of the Cycloc’s production is exported globally, with its main markets extending as far as Australia, North America and Europe. The product has already been awarded several distinguished accolades including the Eurobike award.

Company Director, Andrew Lang said, “Winning the Horners Award for 2011 is particularly pleasing due to the heritage represented and the Horners Company’s ongoing support of craft. With the launch of the injection moulded version we have been busy appointing international distribution partners. This has worked out well and we have now just completed our first 12 months supplying the injection moulded version internationally.

“More distributors are continuing to come on board and the feedback is all good. Word is spreading and awareness is growing, it is good to have the production capacity that allows us to promote the product both within the cycling industry and to the public and winning the Horners Award will help.”
