Locking systems are key to connectors’ performance

Stäubli, specialists in connection solutions, have introduced new locking systems across a range of their multi coupling systems specifically designed for the plastics market.

The company says the new mechanisms are stronger, able to withstand increased loading forces and higher temperatures and include new safety options.

The new locking systems are being introduced on several of the multi connector designs used in the plastics market: MCI – non-spill multi-couplings for temperature control; SPC – non-spill hydraulic multi-connectors for sequential injection systems; and RMI Multi – compact multi-connectors for temperature control.

The new locking system is able to withstand higher loading forces and extends the operating temperature for all of these connectors up to 200°C, providing the facility for faster moulding as well as extending the range of materials that can be processed. Stäubli says two new important options are also being introduced. Firstly, an additional safety feature eliminating any chance of accidental disconnection by requiring a two-stage disconnection – the locking handle can only be released if simultaneously the safety locking pin is raised and, secondly, the option to specify a left handed locking handle rather than the standard right handed version. Stäubli says this allows two plates to be positioned side by side or placed in locations where RH operation would be difficult or impossible, for example against the machine platen.
