Nampak puts a big tick in the box for responsible business

Nampak Plastics, a UK producer of plastic milk bottles, was last week awarded a Big Tick at the Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards.

In achieving a Big Tick, recognised as an endorsement of responsible business, Nampak has been identified as part of a group working towards a fairer society and a more sustainable future through ventures such cutting dependency on natural resources.

“We are thrilled to be recognised by the Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards, and to be honoured with a Big Tick,” commented Eric Collins, Managing Director of Nampak Plastics.

“This is a great testament to the hard work the team has been undertaking. At Nampak we work continuously to improve both our business processes and products in order to ensure we’re reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment wherever possible.”

Nampak is most well known for introducing its ‘Infini’ bottle to the British market in 2012 – an innovative and lightweight range of high density polyethylene (HDPE) milk bottles. It has resulted in the world's lightest 4-pint 32g bottle, which contains up to 20 percent less material than a standard bottle, and up to 30 percent recycled HDPE.

Furthermore, based on Infini being the bottle of choice, Nampak says it could save the UK milk packaging industry 34,000 tonnes of plastic resin per annum, and 16,000 tonnes of carbon.

“Our Infini bottle is just one example of the work being done, but at Nampak we go so much further by making sure every part of the chain is as efficient as possible, from world record breaking machinery to our Carbon Champions who monitor each of our sites. We are so pleased that our effort is being widely recognized,” Collins added.

More than 700,000,000 Infini bottles have been sold, stocked in retailers including Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons within the UK.
