A platform to promote UK plastics

The three-year wait is finally over, as Interplas 2014 prepares to open its doors this month for what is set to be a truly memorable experience for both exhibitors and visitors. With some impressive stands, some pivotal conference sessions and several new initiatives including workshops and interactive experiences, this year’s outing is set to be something special.

And rightly so. The UK manufacturing economy is at its strongest for years, with the CBI predicting the recent robust growth will continue for the remainder of 2014. Coupled with a flurry of announcements from major vehicle OEMs boosting supply chains up and down the country by choosing to manufacture their latest new models here in Britain, as well as and continued export sales growth and investment intentions, it seems like the perfect time to celebrate the best of our industry.

The amount of exhibitors, across the entire industry spectrum, that are launching new products, bringing new and exciting technology and showing the most highly specialised equipment is a clear indication of the importance placed on Interplas by the plastics sector.

This is something that Philip Law, BPF Director General, will emphasise during his keynote presentation on the opening day of the show, entitled ‘The UK Plastics Industry and the World.’

To that end, a key highlight of this year’s event will be the two seminar theatres, which over the three days will each cover some of the most significant and contemporary topics in the areas of environment, technology, business affairs, new innovation and upcoming industry regulation.

With the environment still being an industry buzzword, there will be many aspects of Interplas geared towards a more sustainable future. Not only will the ‘Green Room’ seminars include pressing topics such as energy efficiency, biomaterials and the environment, but also much of the machinery on display will be highlighting innovations for energy saving, reduced running costs and improved efficiency.

The British Plastics and Rubber team look forward to seeing some new and familiar faces at the show, so look out for us. The team will be armed with video cameras to capture the best bits of the show, so if you are a budding television star, come and have a chat and tell us what you think.
