Germany to ban the use of plastic bags, says environment minister

Germany will enforce a ban on plastic shopping bags, according to the country’s environment minister.

The ban will come into place because voluntary agreements with retailers to curb usage have been sufficient.

Environment Minister Svenja Schulze said: “My ministry will get a plastic bag ban on its way.”

“We need to get out of the throw-away society and overall, use less plastic.”
