Hose manufacturer ups green credentials with local recycling scheme

A manufacturer of rubber and silicone hoses says it has enhanced its green credentials by partnering with a local firm to recycle, rather than incinerate, a PET film used in its production process.

James Dawson Ltd is now working with a local specialist waste stream solution provider to ensure that the ‘Melinex’ PET film required in the production of silicone and organic rubber EPDM sheets is recycled.

The provider was identified through working with Re:Sourcing UK - a service from Link2Energy Ltd which seeks to provide options and opportunities for companies with problematic waste streams - following a Waste Workshop in Lincoln, where James Dawson has its global headquarters.

“We were looking for a local non-RDF outlet for Melinex, which is generally clean but with a risk of some slight rubber contamination,” said Denzil Phillips, Quality and Environmental Manager at James Dawson.

“Re:Sourcing UK acted as a great resource for us in helping us identify the ideal people to dispose of the Melinex in as sustainable and environmentally-friendly a manner as possible.

“We’re very pleased with the solution and it forms part of our wider sustainability plans moving forward.”

James Dawson has previously won the prestigious BPF Energy Award, having shown great improvement its index of energy utilisation per kilo output, and the company is also approved to environmental standard ISO 14001.
