PLASgran invests in new BOY machine to facilitate business growth

Cambridgeshire-based plastics recycler, PLASgran, has installed a new injection moulding machine following its recent investment in new production capacity.

It says the 22-tonne BOY22A machine will allow much faster production of colour plaques and test pieces for tensile, flexural and impact testing, and further enhances its technical development capability.

“The arrival of this machine marks the most recent instalment of a long-term investment strategy to expand the capabilities of the business. It is our mission to provide the best quality, specified and quality controlled range of recycled materials to the plastics industry,” explained Mark Roberts, Managing Director at PLASgran.

“We have backed the capital investment with additional roles to support the Quality and Technical Development functions, and will continue to develop our capabilities as we move through the next year, with plans in place for a new technical centre and further laboratory-scale processing equipment. Our customers should expect to see our range of products increase in both number and complexity.”

The business, which has been trading since 1999, significantly expanded its processing capacity and capability earlier in the year, with a £1.7 million investment in a new INTAREMA 2018 TVEplus RegrindPro compounding line from EREMA.

Crucially, the company now can process flexible film grades, as well as its traditional base in rigid plastics, and has increased its compounding capacity to more than 30,000 tonnes per annum.

“With the new line, we open up new market opportunities, particularly in the blown film sector, and the state of the art Laser Filter system means we have the best available quality standards for our film compounds,” Roberts concluded.
