Recycled plastic makes a splash at Alton Towers’ waterpark

A coloured stairway using Liverpool-based Centriforce’s Duraplas recycled plastic profiles has been installed at the Alton Towers Resort Waterpark in Staffordshire.

Centriforce says its products were chosen to replace a balustrade on a stairway in the park that needed not only to fit in aesthetically but also withstand heavy use in a constantly damp, humid environment and against rigorous cleaning regimes.

“The Waterpark’s maintenance team was impressed by how easy it was the build the new balustrades with the Duraplas profiles using standard tools such as compound mitre saws, drills and routers. Because the profiles are the same colour all the way through, they could be machined and cut without loss of colour,” said Gary Ellams, Maintenance Manager at Splash Landings Hotel and Waterpark, Alton Towers.

“The Duraplas profiles are unaffected by the humid environment, and can be jet washed without any possibility of fading.

“At the same time, Duraplas is a high-quality plastic construction product made entirely from recycled plastic waste such as plastic bottles, carrier bags and packaging films, so it has impeccable environmental credentials.”
