UK recycled product 'bins' the competition to take top award

A recycling bin made from 100 percent UK sourced post-consumer plastic has won the 2013 EPRO ‘Best Recycled Plastic Product’ Award.

Manufacturing engineer, Will Hayes, has designed and manufactured the winning uBin through his Bristol-based company, Green Warehouse, to encourage responsible recycling of rubbish in offices, schools, universities, hospitals and other typical working environments.

“A lot of effort behind the scenes has led to this product being developed so it is great to be given recognition for our work. We hope that demand for the product will help drive the value through the supply chain and enable more post-consumer plastic to be collected and recycled,” commented Hayes.

The uBin, which is already proving successful in the marketplace, was the only UK product to be nominated as one of the three finalists, the others were from Germany and Ireland respectively.

The other two shortlisted entries were VinyPlus, a facade profile produced using a combination of recycling material and PVC foil which doesn’t require maintenance; and Eco-core, a recycled polyester fibre, which is made wholly from recycled plastic bottles.

The Best Recycled Product is an initiative by Epro, the European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations. Epro consists of seventeen members from fourteen different countries including Recoup from the UK.
