Yours for £3k – the plastic Christmas tree with the fruity price tag

At a garden centre in Southampton, one of the trees on sale is challenging the concept of plastic being a ‘cheap’ material, with its most expensive offering costing an eye-watering £2,999.

Lit by over 2,600 LED bulbs, the three-metre tall illuminated ‘apple’ tree at Haskins West End Garden Centre near Eastleigh is the largest and expensive decoration in the store.

Dean Ridley, Retail Operations Manager for the Haskins Garden Centre Group, said the apple tree offered a “boost to turnover” after a slow start to 2013 as a result of the cold weather.

I’ll take two.
