Addmaster develops antimicrobial protection for packaging and bags

Manufacturer of antimicrobial solutions for the plastics industry, Addmaster, is launching antimicrobial protection for packaging and bags as part of a drive to stop food poisoning.

Addmaster has created a new industry standard for the antimicrobial protection of the outside of chicken packaging to protect the consumer from the risk of campylobacter poisoning.  The Biomaster antibacterial technology is available for film, trays and lids.

“A recent Food Standards Agency report found that seven percent of the outer packaging of chicken sold in supermarkets tested positive for campylobacter,” explained health expert, Dr. Lisa Ackerley. “This means that if you put chicken in your shopping basket today, even if you cook the chicken thoroughly when you get home, you still have a real chance of picking up campylobacter on your hands from contaminated outer packaging.”

In addition to the packaging technology, Addmaster has also developed a Biomaster antibacterial bag for life, available later this year. The bag inhibits the growth of bacteria in a bag between shopping trips, therefore limiting the likelihood of the spread of harmful germs from packaging to other products, surfaces or hands.
