British car manufacturing industry sees double-digit growth in February

The UK’s car manufacturing industry has maintained its positive momentum with an increase in output of 13.1 percent in February.

The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reflect the growing popularity of UK-built cars both at home and abroad, with February’s performance putting production for the year-to-date up 10.6 percent over the same period last year.

Output for the domestic market rose 24.4 percent in the month, accompanied by a robust 9.1 percent increase in export production.

“The UK automotive industry’s impressive growth continued into February, with demand from both domestic and overseas customers showing no signs of slowing,” commented Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive.

“The outlook for the sector is bright, but much will depend on global political and economic conditions in the months and years to come.”
