Christmas bottle tree gets makeover as part of move

A Christmas tree made of hundreds of plastic bottles that first appeared in the borough of Ealing last year has reappeared, albeit with a makeover.

The tree, which has relocated from outside Ealing Town Hall to Southall Square, will take on a pink and purple colour theme in recognition of the colours of the borough’s ‘Big Plan’ project, which aims to bring a series of improvements to the area.

The six-metre tall festive centrepiece was originally commissioned in 2013 as part of Ealing Council’s ‘50 percent by 2020’ recycling campaign and was designed by artist, Ashley Philips.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: “This striking tree not only helps us celebrate Christmas, it comes with a green message.

“The tree is designed to make people think about how much we all consume and how items could be reused.”
