Celebrating National Women in Engineering Day 2016

by

On June 23rd 2016, National Women in Engineering Day (NWED) will be celebrated worldwide to raise awareness of women in the engineering industry and the career opportunities available.

The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) set up the international awareness campaign back in 2014 to mark its 95th anniversary. The WES said that the campaign was set up to encourage girls to take up careers in engineering, not only to increase diversity and inclusion, but also to enable the substantial future job opportunities that have been predicted in this sector to be filled.

Just like WES, Women in Plastics (WIP), an initiative set up to act as a forum for women to network and communicate within the world of plastics, encourages women to join a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Plastics plays a fundamental role in the engineering industry; there are a number of companies which specialise in engineering plastics which are used to enhance devices and machinery that are essential in many areas of engineering, as well as helping to improve sustainability within the industry.

The WES is encouraging everyone, from female engineers to schools to companies and organisations, to help raise awareness of #NWED2016 in a number of ways including sharing information about the day via social media and holding competitions.
