LEGO festive sculpture is snow joke

Continuing the tradition of the last few years, a giant snow globe filled with 14 London landmarks, all made entirely from LEGO bricks, is on display in Covent Garden.

Built by professional LEGO builder, Duncan Titmarsh, the snow globe features plastic depictions of the Shard, Nelson’s Column, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, Big Ben and the London Eye, amongst others.

The creation features an impressive 120,000 bricks and reportedly took a painstaking 75 days to build.

The snow globe is the latest in a series of festive creations made of LEGO to adorn venues across the UK. In 2011, a 10-metre tall Lego Christmas tree set the scene for commuters passing through London’s St Pancras station and, in 2012, Covent Garden’s West Piazza played host to a giant advent calendar, made with 600,000 bricks in 30 different colours.

The advent calendar is making another appearance this year at Leeds’ Trinity Shopping Centre, where each day in December a door will be opened to reveal a 3D Lego creation inside.
