New machine will help Polymer Training Centre meet “unprecedented demand”

Telford-based Polymer Training and Innovation Centre (PTIC), has taken delivery of a new injection moulding machine in order to keep up with “unprecedented demand” for its commercial training courses.

The Centre says the installation of the new 100/520-340 Smart electric injection moulding machine from its commercial partner, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag UK, will allow it to accommodate the rising demand and train delegates on the latest equipment.

“Commercial partnerships with leading industry suppliers are extremely important to PTIC and the college. We are experiencing unprecedented demand for our commercial training courses and this new equipment will enable us to extend our provision, hold prices down, and give delegates the opportunity to train on top-of-the-range machinery,” explained Georgina Parker, Director of Employment Skills and Commercial Delivery at the College.

“We are delighted to be working with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag UK in this exciting growth period for the polymer industry across the West Midlands and the UK.”

The new injection moulding machine is the second machine to be installed by Sumitomo Demag at the PTIC. Their first donation, installed in 2011, has helped train more than 400 course delegates and was used as a demonstration machine for groups of potential buyers.

PTIC, based in Telford, is a business unit of City of Wolverhampton College in 2010 and is an internationally-recognised centre of excellence, training over 600 polymer sector employees each year.

The centre boasts over £1m of specialist equipment and offers high quality training and consultancy across all the major plastic processes, including injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion training.
