Next £20 note to be printed on plastic

by

A new £20 note printed on polymer will be available from 2018, the Bank of England has announced.

The £20 note will follow the £5 and £10 notes, which will be available from next year.

The Bank made the decision to print on polymer in 2013, after a public consultation favoured the move to a cleaner, more secure and more durable material than the current cotton notes.

A competitive tender process for the supply of the polymer for the £20 note is expected to start in late 2015.

The Bank has not yet announced which visual artist is to appear on the note, this will be decided from one of the almost 30,000 nominations submitted following a public vote earlier this year.
