Packaging company’s first female director encourages more women to join industry

Manchester-based polythene packaging manufacturer and supplier Duo UK has bolstered its board with the appointment of Zoe Brimelow (29) to the newly created role of Brand Director.

Commenting on becoming Duo’s first female director, Zoe said: “Manufacturing is a sector I feel passionately about and figures show only around a quarter (26%)* of the industry workforce are women, so of course I’d like to see more women seek out careers in what is a diverse and fascinating sector.”

Zoe joined Duo in 2009 following a management buyout and a shift in strategic direction and has helped to establish a marketing function and create the Duo brand. The company says ultimately the success of this has paved the way for Duo to deal directly with high profile retailers such as ASOS, John Lewis and Tesco.

“I have always had a personal ambition to work my way up to a level where I can truly make an impact so naturally I’m delighted to join the board. I’m extremely passionate about Duo and I look forward to working with the team to shape it’s future,” Zoe continued.

Duo UK’s Managing Director, David Brimelow, commented: “Zoe’s directorship is entirely down to her business acumen, dedication and drive, but it’s also true that Zoe is the first woman we’ve welcomed to the board. As such her appointment has the added bonus of increasing Duo’s diversity, something which I believe is important in building a strong business. Individuals with different skills and experiences stimulate debate, and debate ultimately helps us make better business decisions.”
