Plastic puts the fun into eating

A promotional merchandise manufacturer has launched a new range of fully customisable plastic cutlery that can be folded down and carried in a wallet.

Düsseldorf –based promotional and designer produce manufacturer, Usables, says its range of polypropylene cutlery is the first that can be printed with detailed visual images.

The company says in order to make the 800 µm thick, food-safe cutlery it developed a manufacturing process new to the graphic design/printing sector, based on die cutting with a tolerance of less than 0.01 millimetres.

“We were surprised how thin this cutlery is. With a normal knife you can’t cut a sausage as cleanly or stab several chips in one go,” commented designer, Daniela Lust.

The cutlery comes in a credit card format and can be inserted into a wallet. Shortly before use, it is simply hooked together to give it its strength. Useables states it is dishwasher-safe and is available in 15 different basic colours, 7 of which are transparent.

Managing Director, Oliver Plantenberg, said: “We expect to be popular with food and drink manufacturers. And sports fans will also probably want to eat in their club’s colours in the stadium and at home. Logos, club emblems, appetising images – anything’s possible.”
