Plastic shade shields screens from both the sun and nosy neighbours

A Wigan-based design company has launched a new plastic product that stops both the sunlight, and other people, from getting to your screen.

Origami Plastics has launched the iShade, a solution designed for Apple iPads or MacBook laptops, which it says is the “must have” travel accessory to shield the screen effectively from both glare from the sun and prying eyes.

The iShade is made from black, heat-resistant, high-grade polypropylene designed and hand-constructed in the UK from 100 percent recyclable materials, making it ideal for sunny outdoor conditions, commuter journeys or busy environments, says the company.

The product is the brainchild of Pete Seddon, who devised the idea when sitting on a wall, trying to watch a game of football on his laptop in the sun in Columbia. In an attempt to shield the screen, Seddon and his friend utilised a piece of cardboard to facilitate their continued watching and the concept was born.

"The cardboard, which was formerly our seat/wall cover, was used to demonstrate the iShade concept,” explained Seddon. “He (Seddon’s friend) encouraged me to build the iShade - so, from Columbia wall-covering prototype to high grade polypropylene sun/ privacy screen final design - here is the iShade."

The product is available in six different sizes, to fit the Apple iPad mini, iPad and all Air and Pro retina MacBooks. High-performance EPDM rubber and elastic cord ensure that the iShade is used to grip the device, which is now retailing through the company’s website as well as online retailers Amazon and Etsy.
