Polymer training centre to host local MP

David Wright MP is set to visit City of Wolverhampton’s specialised Polymer Training Innovation Centre (PTIC) in Telford tomorrow, Friday, 19 July.

Mr Wright, Member of Parliament for Telford, will be given a tour of the centre, which is the largest provider of training to the polymer and plastics industry in the country.

The centre boasts over £1m of specialist equipment and offers high quality training and consultancy across all the major plastic processes, specialising in injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion training.

Around 600 people from the UK and beyond are trained by the centre each year and, since the college took over the facility in 2010, over 1500 have benefitted from its courses and industry-standard facilities.  

The centre also provides skilled workers to the plastics industry through its Polymer Processing Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship+ programmes, and its test equipment can be hired by companies wishing to undertake tool trials or testing of new material innovations.           

Mark Robertson, Principal, said: “Telford currently has over 100 polymer processing and development companies in the area so the centre is well-placed to provide expert skills and knowledge to the local industry.

“We are delighted that Mr Wright has been able to make time in his busy schedule to visit the centre and see for himself how the college is supporting the local economy by providing skilled workers to the plastics and polymer processing industry through its internationally-recognised specialist training facilities.
