Romi Machines UK has appointed materials distributor, Ultrapolymers, as its exclusive agency for Ireland, including both the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The contract will see Ultrapolymers use its established links with the moulding companies of Ireland to create opportunities to sell Romi’s 70 to 1,500 tonne clamping capacity plastic injection moulding machines.

“We have a very strong presence in Ireland and are known and respected by the moulding community here,” commented Jeff Hobbins, Managing Director of Ultrapolymers Ireland.

“We felt that by taking on Romi machines in addition to our existing polymer portfolio we could offer something different that would broaden our outlook in an evolving market and give our customers an even better choice. We are an innovative company and, having been involved with joint projects with Romi in the UK, we saw this as a great opportunity to take our relationship to a new level. It will make good use of our technical know-how and expertise.”

Romi Machines UK, which celebrates its 85th anniversary this year, has been Brazilian owned for eight years. The company offers two ranges of injection moulding machine. The most popular is the EN series, which covers a wide range of small and large moulding applications and is available in 70 to 1,500 tonne models. The other, the EL series, is the company’s top-of-the-range, all electric version, which comes in 70 to 300 tonne capacity.

Ultrapolymers was established in 2002 and is part of the Belgian-based Ravago Group with offices, warehouses and compounding facilities across Europe and also north and south Africa. The Ultrapolymers Ireland distribution business represents a number of the leading global polymer manufacturers, giving a comprehensive choice of products to its 100 plus customers across Ireland. These products are widely used across many applications including automotive, consumer, packaging, building and construction, medical, electrical, engineering and rotomoulding.

Romi UK holds £1.2m of spare parts and also has a good service department, which will provide the back up support to Irish customers.

“We hope this agreement with Ultrapolymers will be a long term and mutually beneficial partnership,” says Neil Bathard, Romi’s UK National Sales Manager. “Sales across the UK and Ireland have been strong over the past 12 months and we remain confident demand will continue to grow. The reputation of Romi manufactured machines is growing. The latest generation is known for its robust build, accurate and productive output, ease of use and energy efficiency and we have many converts discovering just what value for money they represent.”
