Rotomoulding expert to join Broadway Colours

by

Broadway Colours have announced the appointment of rotomoulding expert, Dr. Nick Henwood to its technical team.

Dr. Henwood, who has been active in the rotomoulding industry for over 25 years, joins the Suffolk-based manufacturer of colour masterbatch and rotomoulding powders in order to broaden the range of products and technical expertise it offers.

“The rotomoulding industry is becoming increasingly sophisticated in its requirements and we are determined to make sure that our company is well placed to meet current and future demands,” explained Joe Maynard, Managing Director of Broadway Colours.

“We recognise that the provision of specialised technical service is a vital part of the package that we offer our customers and we have brought Dr Nick Henwood on board to spearhead this, as well as to enable us to create innovative new product offerings.”

Broadway has recently significantly enhanced its manufacturing infrastructure, including consolidation of its manufacturing facilities into a single, 90,000 ft2 site and installation of two complete 75mm single-screw extruders, with associated Pallmann grinders, dedicated to the production of rotomoulding powders.

As well as building its manufacturing base, Broadway has invested in dedicated sample production, pilot rotomoulding and testing facilities. As well as its use for quality assurance, the company says these facilities allow it to make small runs of new materials and to rotomould and fully test them.

Facilities include a sample mill, off-line sieving, a single-arm shuttle rotomoulding machine, sample conditioning to minus 40°C and a drop-dart impact tester built to ARM standards. This rotomoulding-specific equipment complements Broadway’s existing colour laboratory facilities; another recent investment has been an accelerated weather test station to expand their regular weatherability testing facilities.

Commenting, Dr Henwood said:  “From long experience, I know what it takes to succeed in this market.  As a company, Broadway definitely has what it takes, in terms of commitment and capabilities.  My role will be to help them build on this, by reinforcing their technical team and by providing my own specialist knowledge and insights into this unique industry.”

Dr Henwood will continue to provide process consultancy, specialist testing and operator training courses to rotomoulders through his own company, Rotomotive Limited.
