RPC Group scoops top packaging award

RPC Group has been named Packaging Company of the Year at the UK Packaging Awards 2012.

The award was presented during an awards ceremony on Wednesday 14 November, with judges describing the company as “a shining example to the industry,” “remarkable” and “the perfect business model”, adding: “it is the group’s mix of excellent management and packaging innovation that won over our judges. It will be a hard act to follow.”

Josh Brooks, Brand Director of awards organiser Packaging News, adds: “RPC is a shining example of how the combination of strong management, a focused strategy and design and manufacturing expertise and innovation can deliver consistent success.”

This latest accolade comes as RPC Group celebrates its 21st anniversary as an independent company, since its formation by a management buyout of the Reedpack Plastics Group from SCA. It also follows the announcement that Chief Executive Ron Marsh is to retire in October 2013, when he will be succeeded by the current Finance Director, Pim Vervaat.

“The Company of the Year award is a fitting tribute to everything that RPC has achieved under Ron’s leadership,” adds Josh Brooks. “This is further evidenced by the company’s effective succession planning which looks certain to keep RPC’s continued growth and development on track.”

The UK Packaging Awards are the biggest for the packaging sector, celebrating the best the industry has to offer in terms of business performance, personal achievement and packaging innovation and design.

Ron Marsh comments: “RPC’s success is the result of the hard work, commitment and skill of everyone who works within the business, and the strong working partnerships that we seek to build with all our customers.”

RPC Containers UKSC and Nexus Packaging were also highly commended in the Best Rigid Plastic Pack category for the EcoStacker drum, a new generation of user-friendly large plastic containers incorporating a new and unique anti-glug feature.
