Update: Union "positive" after Grangemouth talks

Further to yesterday's (23 Oct) decision by Ineos to close its petrochemicals facility in Grangemouth, Scotland, after ongoing disputes with workers over pay and conditions, the Unite Union has held discussions with plant owners this morning to offer concessions in order to overturn the outcome. 

Speaking to the BBC after the talks, Len McCluskey, Unite's General Secretary, said: "I feel very positive about our objective of making certain that the plant stays open. Obviously now it will be in the hands of Ineos.

"I'm optimistic that we will have a positive response from Ineos in the next 24 hours or so."

Earlier this morning, Ineos Director, Tom Crotty, told the BBC's breakfast news reporters that it was too early to say what the outcomes of this morning's discussions would be, but that Ineos were prepared to listen to what the union had to say.

The decision to close the plant yesterday meant all 800 workers at the petrochemicals site would lose their jobs.
