Cube mould technology adds new dimension

Manufacturer of custom injection and blow-moulded components for the packaging industry, Plastek UK, has invested in three new Ferromatik injection moulding machines, bringing its total on the shop floor to 41.

Based in Mansfield, north Nottinghamshire, the company says this latest expansion is a direct response to winning new business from some famous global brands. Plastek UK has trebled its production capacity since 1999, with eight new machines being installed since 2010.

“Our teams have now installed all three of the new Ferromatik machines, a K-Tec 320, K-Tec 450 and the excellent K-Tec 200/2F ETW machine which features the latest stack turning cube mould technology,” said General Manager, Mick Shaw.

“With four core sides which can be turned in less than a second, this particular machine allows us to increase production capacity as there are twice as many cavities in the mould. It also allows us to use moulding machines with half the clamping force to produce the same quantity of parts – the advantages being lower capital costs, parts costs and cycle times. This is exactly the sort of process innovation our customers are looking for,” Shaw concluded.
