Engel launches new machine for packaging sector

Engel has launched a new hybrid injection moulding machine specifically targeted at highly demanding applications in the packaging sector.

The new Engel e-speed 650 high-speed machine reportedly combines the technology of the all-electric Engel e-motion and Engel e-cap high-performance series with the performance of the Engel speed series, which the company says means it unites outstanding injection speeds with maximum energy efficiency.

Engel says two aspects were focused on in particular during the development of this addition to its speed series; the introduction of higher clamping forces at the top end of the series and a new drive concept which is said to guarantee excellent energy efficiency levels even at high speed.

The result, says the company, is a 650-tonne hybrid machine with an electric clamping unit and a completely new drive solution.

The new machine is said to achieve extremely short dry cycle times. An integrated controlled spindle cooling system is also said to help to shorten cycle times, which can be reportedly less than four seconds when thin-walled items like containers and lids are being manufactured for purposes such as food packaging. Engel says the e-speed 650 has been specially equipped with an extensive range of options (including cooling water and pneumatic options among other things) to enable it to meet demanding packaging requirements.

Engel's new hybridd machine will be demonstrated its impressive performance levels at the K trade fair in Düsseldorf from 16th to 23rd October 2013. At Engel's stand in hall 15, an Engel e-speed 650/90 will be making thin-walled containers in an 8+8-cavity stack mould in a total cycle time of under four seconds.
