Biesterfeld adds Heroc antimicrobial masterbatches to portfolio

by

Materials distributor, Biesterfeld Plastic, is now distributing masterbatches with antimicrobial and aseptic properties as part of its portfolio.

The masterbatches made by Heroc are designed to prevent the accumulation of microorganisms, hazardous to health, such as bacteria on the surface of plastic products.

"Together with Heroc, we are offering a biocide-free solution without nanoparticles. The physical mode of action provides for a surface free of germs and bacteria", explained Florian Brandes, European Product Manager at Biesterfeld. "This is an optimal alternative to chemical biocides, silver, and heavy metals."

Due to a lack of migration of the material constituents, the batch has been proven to be neither toxic, zytotoxic, nor allergenic, says Biesterfeld. A further advantage, it added, is the prevention of the transmission of resistances and a dramatic reduction of infection risk.

Practically all polymers can be treated with the masterbatch – with individualised doses also possible, depending on the desired intensity of effect.

In order to make products antimicrobial, the additives are introduced into raw material. The essential properties of the raw material remain unchanged. This means that the manufacturing conditions are also largely unaffected. The treated plastics provide quick and lasting protection, for example, from bacterial infestation.

In conjunction with Heroc, Biesterfeld is offering a complete service on its antimicrobial products, including the development of individual applications and masterbatches, as well as laboratory testing.

This project-based work, it says, combines expertise on regulatory standards with knowledge of factors influential to the antimicrobial properties
