New electric car features sustainable plastic

A NEW electric car has been prototyped in Japan, featuring three parts from DSM.

SIM-Drive Corporation, a Japanese electric vehicle developer, unveiled the SIM-CEL car in March.

The car has three parts contributed by DSM – a body panel and a wheel cover made from its EcoPaXX polyamide and a heat sink made from its Stanyl TC polyamide.

The materials add to the car’s sustainability, with the polyamide claiming to be 100% carbon neutral.

Kees Tintel, responsible for the EcoPaXX development at DSM said: “The new grade contributes to weight reduction in the SIM-CEL by replacing metal. In fact, the part made from the grade is 50% lighter than a metal version.”

SIM-Drive says the car can travel up to 325km on a single charge, and uses LED headlights in order to consume as little electricity as possible.
