Iconic ‘traffic light’ gloves use UHMWPE technology for ultimate safety

A UK manufacturer of personal protection safety gloves has launched a new solid coloured, cut-resistant line using DSM’s Dyneema Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibre.

TraffiGlove, based in Bracknell, has launched the new product range, called ‘Iconic’, which uses DSM’s Dyneema Diamond Technology in combination with the firm’s colour-coded traffic-light classification system for protective gloves.

The red, amber and green colours of its traffic-light system acts as an immediately visible signal of the cut protection level provided.

Using its own special coating technology, TraffiGlove coats every individual Dyneema fibre before producing the Iconic gloves to ensure a bright and permanent colour. TraffiGlove is reportedly the only company in the world to colour safety gloves this way.

TraffiGlove says the partnership with DSM Dyneema has allowed it to set a course for ambitious growth through the introduction of value-added products. Moreover, it says the collaboration has allowed it to enter markets in which it had previously not been active, such as mechanical assembly, automotive and aerospace.

“Leveraging all the advantages of DSM’s cutting-edge Dyneema Diamond Technology, the solid coloured Iconic range eliminates the drawbacks of previous generations of safety gloves,” said Olivier Boubeaud, Global Business director at DSM Dyneema. “The technology is based on our ultra high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibre and offers a high-end solution for gloves that combine cut protection with comfort.”

The two firms worked to develop the Iconic glove range in response to the market need for comfortable, well-fitting safety gloves with superior cut resistance.
