Lightweight polymer changes direction of play for sports equipment

Manufacturer of the Arpro brand of lightweight polymer material, JSP, says it has helped shape new and innovative designs for sports equipment in a range of different outdoor sports.

JSP says one of the key trends expected for 2015 is the continuation of innovative and smart technology being used in the design and manufacture of sports equipment.

The functionality for outdoor sporting equipment is one of the key aspects for the design of future models, with quality materials and technical improvements leading the way for high performance designs.

The company’s Arpro material has a high strength-to-weight ratio, meaning it remains durable and has the ability to be moulded to whatever shape or form, giving designers freedom to use it in a variety of applications.

So far, the material has been used to create a foldable cycling helmet, soles for Salomon ski boots and soon the release of a lightweight surf board.

The rise in popularity among outdoor sports is what is encouraging more inventive designs and the company is hoping these will offer enthusiasts ambitious products that meet their needs.

Paul Compton, JSP President and Chief Executive Officer of Europe, Middle East and Africa, explained: “Arpro is an incredibly versatile material meaning that it can be used for the developments that will transform sports equipment in the future – proven through its varied use within the sports industry. It’s great to see Arpro being used in applications that are encouraging people to be more active.”

Paul-Eric Chamay from Salomon said: “It’s a brilliant material solution and one which we will continue to build into our products, keeping them innovative and giving our customers what they want to enhance their skiing experience.”

“The trends towards people participating in more open air sports is expected to continue,” Compton added. “The use of Arpro is helping cater for the growing trends of sports equipment.”
