Parx Plastics launches campaign to create antimicrobial iPhone protector

Parx Plastics is using its unique antimicrobial technology to create a phone protector for the iPhone 6 to introduce its technology to wider audience.

The tech startup has launched a campaign on crowd sourcing platform, Kickstarter, to raise funds to put its Dr.Parx antimicrobial iPhone 6 protector into production.

The iPhone cover is made from Parx’ unique antimicrobial technology for plastics, which it says is biocompatible and eco-friendly as it has not been made from silver, biocides or any other harmful substances.

The protector is made from Tritan material from Eastman Chemical and, equipped with the technology from Parx Plastics, offers 99 percent less bacteria than normal. The phone case was developed following recent publications from University of Surrey Senior Lecturer, Dr. Simon Park, claiming that an average phone contains 18 times more bacteria than a public toilet.

Parx said it is “not intending to be a developer of mobile phone accessories”, rather, the company chose the Kickstarter platform to introduce the technology to a wider audience and offer a useful item with it.

Parx, which holds the patent for the technology, says it is developing applications with several Fortune 500 companies for food packaging, implants, medical devices and more.

“It is great to be at the table with these large organisations,” Parx CEO Michaël van der Jagt says. “We are eager to get our technology out in the market, in the hands of the customers.”
