Songwon launches weight-reducing stabiliser for automotive parts
Songwon has announced the availability of a new line of stabilisers that it says meets the stringent needs of the automotive industry in terms of weight and cost reduction.
New Songxtend 2124 is said to improve the long-term thermal stability (LTTS) of the short- and long-glass fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP) used in interior applications for moulded parts, and can match the LTTS performance of 1000 h and beyond at 150° C.
“Songxtend 2124 demonstrates our drive to support the automotive industry. With this new addition, Songwon now offers a full range of stabilisers for unfilled, talc and glass-filled PP,” explained Thomas Schmutz, Leader, Global Technical Service and Application Development at Songwon.
“Providing a cost-efficient alternative to the existing solutions available, Songxtend 2124 has already enabled one of Songwon’s global customers to reduce costs in its glass fibre reinforced PP application while exceeding 1000h at 150° C, long-term thermal stability.”

The company, which is the second largest manufacturer of polymer stabilisers in the world, said recently that it was “committed to the polymer industry.”
Making the statement at a pre-K address, Songwon said it would use its appearance at the K Show in Dusseldorf later this year as an opportunity to both showcase its high performance solutions, as well as its dedication to the plastics industry as a whole.
