Spot the difference: Eastman copolyester used for glass-mimicking barware

Eastman Chemical Company’s Tritan copolyester is being used at one of Europe’s largest cultural festivals to help improve safety and sustainability.

The material is being used to replace traditional glass barware in the Belgian city of Ghent for ‘The Ghent Festivities’ festival, which runs from July 17-26, 2015.

The Duvel Moortgat Brewery, the drink supplier for the city’s beverage vendors on the Emile Braun Square, is serving its beer from a unique Duvel glass made with Eastman’s Tritan copolyester.

The durable Duvel beer glass is identical to the traditional glass and includes the original engraved D to provide “perfect bubbling”.

“The Duvel glass is an important part of our customers’ drinking experience,” said Nicolas Soenen, Zythologist at Duvel Moortgat Brewery.

“In order to give our customers that same unique and high-quality experience of our beers, we chose Eastman Tritan copolyester. The barware we are using at Gentse Feesten provides the same appearance, weight and feel of our original glass, but allows us to push the boundaries on sustainability and safety.”

In order to withstand the constant use and washing of a 10-day festival, the reusable barware is made with Eastman Tritan copolyester, a dishwasher safe material with crystal-clear clarity and ability, design flexibility and outstanding toughness.

Organisers say that by encouraging the use of plastic as opposed to glass and reusable instead of disposable barware, the festival will serve as a “showcase” for future events in terms of both safety and sustainability.
