A free, one-day seminar and demonstration event to promote the benefits of a micro compounding machine and associated downstream equipment for R&D is being held later this year.
Co-ordinated by Xplore Instruments BV, manufacturers of the Xplore Micro Compounder, together with their agents for the UK and Ireland, Engelmann & Buckham Ltd, the event will be held at the Nanoforce Technology facilities at Queen Mary University in London on 22nd October 2015.
Originally developed from within DSM, the Xplore Micro Compounder is a vertical conical twin-screw device that is capable of mixing and analysing very small quantities of polymer compound.
The machine’s unique ‘Vari-Batch’ feature allows the user to select 3, 7 or 15ml volumes which can be continuously compounded or extruded directly into fibre or film, or taken easily to Xplore’s bench top injection moulder to instantly produce a sample or test piece.
Ton Peijs, Professor of Materials at Queen Mary University, believes it to be an invaluable piece of equipment for polymer R&D, commenting: “Our Xplore compounder is by far the most utilised piece of processing equipment within the Nanoforce Technology facility, it has been used in nearly every research programme we have been involved in the last 10 years.
“The small sample size and rapid cooling system keeps costs to a minimum and maximises the number of samples we can analyse each day,” he added.
Applicants are invited to the morning seminar, which will cover various applications of the Micro Compounder as well as practical uses of its advanced rheological analysing capabilities. A demonstration of the Micro Compounder and down-stream equipment will take place in the afternoon.
