The new PlantBottle is made from 100 percent plant based materials
The Coca-Cola Company has unveiled its first PET bottle made from 100 percent plant materials.
Launched at the World Expo in Milan, the new PlantBottle packaging, betters the current version of the bottle, which includes 30 percent plant-based materials
“Today is a pioneering milestone within our Company’s packaging portfolio,” commented Nancy Quan, Global Research and Development Officer at the coca-Cola copany. Our vision was to maximise game-changing technology, using responsibly sourced plant-based materials to create the globe’s first fully recyclable PET plastic bottle made entirely from renewable materials.”
The company says the new ‘PlantBottle’ packaging is made by converting natural sugars found in plants into the components for making PET bottles, with the same aesthetics, functionality and recyclability as traditional materials.
Since the 2009 launch, The Coca-Cola Company has distributed more than 35 billion bottles in nearly 40 countries using its current version of PlantBottle.
The company says it is estimated the use of PlantBottle packaging since launch has helped save the equivalent annual emissions of more than 315,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The Coca-Cola Company says it plans to continue investment in its PlantBottle packaging.
