Award makes stars out of future packaging designers

An award for students and schools at an industry awards event has highlighted the talent of the next generation of packaging designers.

The ‘Schools Award’ at the IOM’s Starpack Packaging Awards required entrants to design a new children’s toy box that also has a secondary function for use in the home or outside; and to design a flexible pack for a non-food product that is currently packaged in a rigid container.

The winning schools were Bungay High School in Suffolk and Longsands Academy in Cambridgeshire.

”We had a massive response with entries coming from as far away as Finland,” explained Nina Virdi, Marketing and Communications Manager at BPI Recycled

Products, the award sponsors.

“The standard was exceptionally high. The students clearly embraced the brief and thought outside the box to come up with some truly inspiring and well-made products.”

The Starpack Awards have been running for 57 years and includes schemes for for school pupils in Years 10, 11 and AS Level, and for students of packaging design-related courses.

“It’s vital that we encourage the next generation of young designers and the Starpack Awards do just that, and give us the chance to acknowledge and celebrate the next generation of new talent,” Virdi added.
