The Netcomposites seminar programme will cover a broad subject range, including application potential for thermoplastic composites in the automotive industry
The opportunities composites offer to the plastics industry will be discussed in depth at Interplas 2014, with the latest line of speakers in the ‘Netcomposites’ conference session announced today.
The Netcomposites programme will cover the future of thermoplastic composite materials, application potential in the automotive sector, as well as considerations for recycling and will be chaired by Netcomposites’ Dr Matthew Thornton.
The conference will be headed up by Dr Alan Wood, Principal Scientist, Victrex, who will present a keynote paper looking at why the impact of thermoplastic composites has been limited during the last 30 years and the reasons why. He will explain in depth the barriers to penetration that currently exist, as well as discussing the properties of the materials, current developments and future opportunities.
Following Dr Wood will be Gareth Davies, Commercial Manager at Composites Evolution, who will present a paper on ‘Naturally Reinforcing the Automotive Industry’, which will look at developments and potential applications of bio-derived technical yarns and fabrics for the automotive sector; before Alan Lawton, Consultant, ELG Carbon Fibre, will discuss ‘Challenges when Recycling Thermoplastic Carbon Fibre Composites’, covering several aspects including technical constraints, design, mechanical options and future developments.
Finally, completing the line-up is Dr Clint Bainbridge, Development Engineer, NetComposites, who will present ‘Thermoplastic Composites: Engineering a Sustainable Future’, looking at how novel biocomposites and recycled carbon fibre composites can compete with conventional composite materials and how these novel materials are now capable of meeting the demands of the automotive sector.
