Lord Digby Jones addresses the guests at his speech
Lord Digby Jones, former Minister for Trade and Investment was guest speaker at Arburg’s headquarters in Lossburg, Germany.
The talk, attended by 50 guests including Arburg management and customers from Germany, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland, touched on the global economy, emerging nations like China and India, and the future situation.
He began his speech with the statement: “I believe that the next 10 years will have a decisive impact on the lives of our children and grandchildren.”
Lord Jones used China and India’s ambitions of prosperity as examples in his speech. He underlined the importance of creating strong, worldwide-recognised brands.
“It will not suffice to merely invent and manufacture innovative products. These must also be marketed in the right way,” he said.
He also stated the importance of education and training, stating any available money must be invested in the future with a view to helping people develop their skills.
He said: “A successful manager is one who rather than focusing on his own abilities, works at improving those of others.”
Lord Jones’s speech lasted for 90 minutes and was concluded with questions from the audience.
